About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Transport Planner to join a well-established and fast-paced transport operation in North Yorkshire. This is a key role supporting the Transport Manager in delivering cost-effective planning, high service levels, and strong operational performance across a busy fleet. The successful candidate will play a vital part in ensuring On Time In Full (OTIF) delivery performance, maintaining compliance with all transport legislation, and managing day-to-day traffic office activities. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated and organised planner who thrives in a deadline-driven logistics environment.

Key Responsibilities

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Planning, routing and executing daily transport schedules to ensure deliveries are completed in full and on time
  • Maximising fleet utilisation and minimising empty running
  • Managing and updating the Transport Management System (TMS) accurately and efficiently
  • Liaising with customers regarding bookings, collections, and delivery schedules
  • Monitoring vehicle availability and coordinating with the maintenance team to minimise downtime
  • Sourcing and managing approved subcontractors when required
  • Ensuring all Proof of Deliveries (PODs) are available within 24 hours
  • Managing all associated transport documentation and compliance records
  • Overseeing the traffic office function, ensuring all jobs are actioned in line with customer SLAs
  • Supporting cross-dock operations and label generation where required
  • Investigating and responding to delivery non-conformances within agreed timeframes
  • Coaching and supporting drivers to maintain service and compliance standards
  • Ensuring compliance with Working Time Directive and Tachograph legislation
  • Maintaining high standards of health & safety and accident reporting procedures
  • Undertaking any other reasonable duties as required by management

Skills, Experience & Requirements

  • Previous experience in a Transport Planner or Traffic Planner role
  • Strong understanding of UK transport legislation, including Tachograph and Working Time Directive regulations
  • Experience working with a Transport Management System (TMS)
  • Proven ability to plan cost-effective and time-efficient routes
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise under pressure
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Confident using Microsoft Office and general IT systems
  • Ability to manage relationships with customers, suppliers, and drivers professionally
  • Right to work in the UK
