Overview:

A dynamic and forward-thinking technical team is seeking a skilled and ambitious Technical Development Engineer to help drive innovation, efficiency, and growth across inspection, calibration, and repair operations. This is a high-impact role with real influence—offering the opportunity to work directly with Directors, lead technical improvements, and play a vital part in expanding service capabilities. Ideal for someone with a passion for process optimisation, mentoring technical staff, and staying ahead of industry trends.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the Managing Director, Technical Director, Production Manager, and Lab Supervisors
  • Ensure all laboratory equipment is maintained, calibrated, and fully documented with training support
  • Research and develop business cases for new equipment to expand calibration capabilities
  • Improve processes and procedures to enhance accuracy and efficiency
  • Lead and mentor technical staff including supervisors, technicians, and apprentices
  • Expand in-house calibration services to reduce reliance on subcontractors
  • Ensure compliance with ISO 17025:2017 and maintain all associated documentation
  • Conduct on-site customer surveys and provide expert technical advice
  • Create procedures, certificate templates, and records for new equipment types
  • Assist with technical audits, risk assessments, and RAMS documentation
  • Provide accurate technical input for marketing, sales, and customer communications
  • Assist with quoting and pricing calibration and inspection services

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in inspection, calibration, or repair of instruments and measuring devices
  • Relevant technical qualifications
  • Strong understanding of technical data, with a methodical and detail-focused mindset
  • Ability to create and implement procedures and train others effectively
  • Commercial awareness and cost-effective approach to decision-making
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Proactive, self-motivated, and able to lead and inspire a team
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities
  • Flexible, enthusiastic, and passionate about technical development
