Purchasing Assistant
Nottingham Full-Time, Permanent

We’re working in partnership with a well-established manufacturing business based in Nottingham that is currently looking for a Purchasing Assistant to join their growing procurement team.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with previous experience in buying, purchasing or supply chain support — especially within a manufacturing or engineering environment — who is ready to take on more responsibility and grow their skills in a fast-paced setting.

The Role

As the Purchasing Assistant, you’ll support day-to-day procurement operations, helping to source materials, place orders, liaise with suppliers, and maintain accurate purchasing records. You’ll work closely with the production and operations teams to ensure the timely availability of key materials, contributing directly to the efficiency of the supply chain.

Key Responsibilities

  • Raise and manage purchase orders for raw materials, components, and consumables
  • Maintain stock levels to meet production requirements
  • Work with existing suppliers to ensure on-time delivery and resolve supply issues
  • Support cost-saving and supplier performance initiatives
  • Monitor supplier lead times, pricing and availability
  • Assist in sourcing new suppliers and obtaining quotations
  • Keep procurement data and records accurate and up to date in the ERP system
  • Provide general support to the Purchasing Manager and wider team

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience in a buying, purchasing or supply chain support role
  • Ideally some experience in a manufacturing or engineering environment
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Good communication and negotiation skills
  • IT literate – confident with Microsoft Excel; ERP/MRP systems experience a bonus
  • Willingness to learn and develop within a fast-moving team environment
  • CIPS qualification (or working towards) desirable but not essential
