Where will you be working?
We are recruiting on behalf of our client, a leading provider of full end-to-end energy infrastructure solutions across:
- Electricity transmission
- Electricity distribution
- Renewable energy
- EV
- Metering
- Home decarbonisation
Their teams design, build and commission substations up to and including 400kV, and they construct and maintain transmission lines and substations to ensure the efficient and reliable delivery of electricity across the UK.
They are now seeking an experienced engineer to help shape the future of the UK’s energy infrastructure. If you have a strong background in high-voltage protection and control systems and enjoy working on complex, multidisciplinary projects, this could be your next major step.
What You’ll Be Doing:
In this role, you will:
- Own the full Protection & Control (P&C) design process from concept through to construction-ready deliverables
- Collaborate with HV plant, cable teams, civils, and project managers to ensure seamless project delivery
- Build strong relationships with clients and internal stakeholders
- Plan team resources and mentor junior engineers
- Ensure designs meet quality standards, compliance requirements and client expectations
- Create and review tender specifications, AC/DC schematics and protection diagrams
- Approve detailed drawings and third-party design submissions
- Specify relays, CTs, VTs and other key equipment
- Carry out protection grading studies and produce relay settings
- Support commissioning plans and attend technical panel meetings
What You’ll Bring:
- Degree in Electrical Engineering (or related discipline)
- 8+ years’ experience in electrical design, including 4+ years on UK transmission projects (NGET, SSEN, etc.)
- Strong knowledge of HV substations (132kV–400kV) and UK industry standards
- Hands-on experience with protection relays, CT/VT sizing and AC/DC schematic drawings
- Skilled in ETAP, DIgSILENT, and familiar with IEC 61850, DNP3, Modbus
- Strong leadership qualities, a safety-first mindset and excellent attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple projects and thrive within a collaborative team
