Role: Material Planner
Salary: £30,000 – £35,000
Location: Sheffield
Type: Permanent, Full-Time (Monday–Friday)
Overview
2fawcett are recruiting for a Material Planner to join a growing and dynamic business based in Sheffield on a permanent basis.
Reporting directly to the Purchasing Manager, you will play a key role in ensuring the smooth flow of materials across the business. You will be responsible for managing customer orders, maintaining optimal stock levels, and coordinating closely with suppliers to balance cost, availability, and delivery performance.

Key Responsibilities
Supplier Management
- Proactively prevent stock shortages through forward planning and supplier engagement
- Place purchase orders, balancing cost, quantity, and delivery efficiency
- Build strong supplier relationships to ensure on-time deliveries and accurate lead times
- Regularly update and manage supplier promise dates
- Work closely with Account Managers to communicate stock availability
- Manage overdue or unnecessary orders, ensuring stock accuracy
- Identify opportunities to reduce lead times and optimise order quantities
- Resolve delivery discrepancies, pricing issues, and quality concerns with suppliers
- Negotiate pricing and maintain accurate supplier cost data
- Approve supplier invoices and liaise with finance on payments
- Coordinate with freight forwarders and internal teams to ensure smooth delivery processes
Stock & Planning
- Maintain and update reorder parameters based on supplier performance and product demand
- Monitor and adjust forecasts, working closely with product and commercial teams
- Identify and manage excess stock, implementing strategies to reduce overstock
- Support the introduction of new products, ensuring systems are updated accordingly
- Ensure efficient product flow, considering warehouse capacity and operational constraints
- Coordinate deliveries and work closely with Goods In and warehouse teams to resolve issues
Requirements
- Experience in a fast-paced planning, supply chain, or logistics environment
- Previous experience with forecasting and planning systems
- Strong IT skills, particularly Microsoft Office (Excel)
- Excellent negotiation and supplier management skills
- Highly analytical with a strong attention to detail
- Proactive, innovative, and solutions-focused mindset
- Strong problem-solving skills with a continuous improvement approach
