About the Role

2fawcett Recruitment is recruiting for an experienced Fleet Manager to join a growing vehicle hire business based in Birmingham, B43.

This is a varied, hands-on management position with responsibility for the day-to-day running of the branch, its vehicle fleet and operational team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the branch operates efficiently, vehicles are available and maintained to the required standards, customers receive an excellent service, and the team is working towards clear operational targets.

A key focus of the position will be to streamline existing operations, introduce effective processes and KPIs, improve fleet utilisation and drive greater accountability across the branch.

Key Responsibilities

• Take ownership of the day-to-day operation of the vehicle hire branch
• Manage the availability, utilisation and condition of the vehicle fleet
• Coordinate vehicle collections, deliveries, returns, inspections and preparation
• Ensure vehicles are serviced, maintained, MOT’d and fully roadworthy
• Monitor vehicle movements, downtime and maintenance schedules
• Manage vehicle damage, repairs, accidents and associated insurance processes
• Lead and manage a team of administration staff and drivers
• Allocate workloads and ensure operational deadlines and service levels are achieved
• Introduce, monitor and manage branch and individual KPIs
• Identify opportunities to streamline processes and improve operational efficiency
• Deliver a high standard of customer service throughout the rental process
• Resolve customer queries, complaints and operational issues effectively
• Build and maintain relationships with garages, suppliers, recovery companies and other external partners
• Maintain accurate fleet, rental and operational records
• Monitor costs and identify opportunities to maximise fleet utilisation and reduce unnecessary expenditure
• Ensure all legal, Health & Safety and company compliance requirements are met
• Work closely with the accounts team to review branch performance and P&L
• Support the wider commercial performance and continued growth of the branch

About You

We are looking for an experienced operational manager who is organised, commercially aware and confident managing both people and fleet operations.

You will be comfortable working in a busy environment, making decisions, improving processes and getting involved in the day-to-day operation when required.

Ideally, you will have:

• Previous experience within vehicle hire, fleet management, automotive, transport, logistics or a similar operational environment
• Previous team management or supervisory experience
• Strong knowledge of fleet operations, vehicle maintenance and compliance
• Experience implementing or managing operational processes and KPIs
• Excellent organisational and time-management skills
• Strong communication and customer service skills
• The ability to prioritise workloads and make effective decisions under pressure
• Good IT, systems and administrative skills
• Commercial awareness with an understanding of operational costs and fleet utilisation
• Experience working with budgets or P&L would be advantageous
• A full UK driving licence
• A practical, hands-on management style
