Job Title: Finance Assistant

Location: Derby

Salary: Up to £30,000 per annum

Type: Full time, Permanent

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage daily and weekly business banking, including setting up and maintaining beneficiaries.
  • Handle GBP, EUR, and USD payments, and monitor foreign currency requirements.
  • Maintain the purchase ledger in Sage accounting system: supplier setup, invoice input, account reconciliations, direct debits, and payments.
  • Process company and personnel expenses, petty cash, and payroll journals, submitting PAYE/NIC to HMRC.
  • Prepare and manage payment schedules for approval and subsequent payments.
  • Maintain company credit card transactions, intercompany accounting, and supplier order monitoring.
  • Assist with cashflow forecasting, forward planning for currency transactions, and provide recommendations for foreign exchange requirements.
  • Perform monthly bank reconciliations, supplier account reconciliations, and intercompany account reconciliations.
  • Raise ad hoc manual invoices for non-product sales and ensure timely quarterly VAT return preparation.
  • Provide monthly finance reporting to the Finance Director to support management accounts preparation.
  • Support Customer Services and ensure company policies are consistently applied.
  • Maintain effective communication and collaboration across all Spirit Medical team members.

Skills & Experience

  • Experience working in a similar finance/accounts role.
  • Familiarity with business accounting processes and foreign currency management.
  • Knowledge of Sage 200 accounting system is advantageous.
  • Strong IT skills, particularly Excel and Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships across teams, customers, and suppliers.
  • Reliable, conscientious, and able to manage routine tasks while ensuring compliance with company policies.
  • Calm under pressure, collaborative, and approachable with a friendly manner.
