Electrical Engineer

2fawcett are actively looking to speak with experienced Electrical Engineers to join our client on a permanent basis. Our client is a leading UK manufacturer of advanced CNC machinery; the successful candidate would take ownership of the electrical and PLC elements of its bespoke machine range.

The Role

If you are a Senior Electrical Engineer looking for full technical ownership within a compact, high-performance engineering environment, or an experienced Electrical Engineer ready to step up into a more senior, autonomous role this is the opportunity for you.

  • Full ownership of the electrical and PLC engineering function
  • Product development, commissioning, and long-term machine support.
  • New Machine Commissioning, Testing & Fault Resolution
  • Lead electrical commissioning of new CNC laser and plasma machines.
  • Diagnose and resolve electrical, CNC and motion-control issues during build and validation stages.
  • Sign off electrical functionality prior to release.
  • R&D and New Product Development
  • Design electrical architectures and PLC-controlled motion systems for next-generation CNC platforms.
  • Specify and integrate drives, servo motors, sensors, controllers and laser subsystems.
  • Support prototype builds, trials, and multi-disciplinary development projects.
  • Service Support & Technical Leadership
  • Serve as the escalation point for complex electrical and PLC-related faults.
  • Provide advanced root-cause analysis for the Service team.
  • Produce structured technical guidance and internal training materials.
  • Electrical Design & Compliance
  • Produce electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and control-panel layouts.
  • Ensure compliance with CE, UKCA, Machinery Directive and relevant safety standards.
  • Maintain BOMs, test specifications and build documentation.
  • PLC & Software Collaboration
  • Own and develop PLC coding (Beckhoff).
  • Collaborate closely with the software development team to ensure seamless machine integration and diagnostics

The Candidate

  • Must have eligibility to work in the UK, no sponsorship will be offered
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Mechatronics or similar.
  • Experience within CNC machinery, industrial automation or special-purpose equipment.
  • Strong expertise in electrical design, PLC control and multi-axis motion systems.
  • Confident writing/modifying PLC code (Beckhoff preferred).
  • Knowledge of servo systems, VFDs and industrial networks (e.g., EtherCAT).
  • Strong understanding of machine safety, interlocks, risk assessment and compliance.
  • Excellent diagnostic, fault-finding and structured problem-solving skills.
  • Background with fibre laser or plasma cutting systems.
  • CNC retrofits, machine upgrades or performance optimisation.
  • Knowledge of G-code, CAM workflows or motion profiling.
  • Additional experience with robotics, automation, pneumatics or hydraulics.
  • Comfortable taking full technical ownership within a small, fast-moving engineering environment.
  • Methodical, reliable and able to see work through to completion.
  • Strong communicator across mechanical, software and service disciplines.
  • High professional standards with a passion for engineering quality.
