About the Opportunity

2fawcett Infrastructure are recruiting on behalf of our client, a leading UK provider of integrated energy and infrastructure services.

Operating nationwide, the business delivers end-to-end solutions in electricity transmission and distribution, renewable energy, EV infrastructure, metering, and home energy projects.

This opportunity sits within the Distribution & Connections division, supporting power-network upgrades and new-connection programmes across the UK. The team designs, installs, and maintains distribution networks from 11 kV to 132 kV, managing everything from concept design through to construction, commissioning, and handover.

You’ll join an organisation focused on safety, innovation, and collaboration, playing a key part in strengthening the UK’s energy infrastructure and its journey toward net zero.

What You’ll Be Doing

As Design Manager, you’ll lead the design function for electrical infrastructure projects nationwide — overseeing multidisciplinary teams and ensuring delivery excellence across scope, budget, and programme.

Key responsibilities include:

• Leading and coordinating internal and external design resources
• Setting and managing safety, commercial, and operational objectives
• Owning the financial performance of design projects and monitoring cost forecasts
• Tracking progress against internal and client milestones
• Building and maintaining strong client relationships across the distribution sector
• Mentoring and developing design engineers to support growth and succession
• Planning workloads to meet programme and customer requirements
• Preparing design programmes, reports, and commercial updates
• Ensuring compliance with technical standards, legislation, and quality systems

What You’ll Bring

• Experience leading design or engineering teams within utilities, energy, or infrastructure projects
• Strong people-management and motivational skills
• Chartered Engineer status (or equivalent experience)
• Knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 (health and safety management)
• Understanding of CDM Regulations and the Designer’s responsibilities
• Technical knowledge of protection and control schemes for 11 kV – 132 kV networks
• Confidence in design management and commercial decision-making
• Advantageous: experience working within alliances or joint venture arrangements
