About the Role

We’re looking for an experienced and self-motivated Design Engineer to join our team, supporting the fabrication department in a crucial and autonomous capacity. You’ll be responsible for designing both standard and bespoke equipment.

Working from initial concept design with technical sales teams, through to production and installation alongside electrical and fabrication engineers, this is a full lifecycle design role where your expertise will directly shape project success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create detailed engineering designs for chemical processing lines, roller tracks, tanks, spray booths, or similar
  • Produce high-quality 2D drawings (AutoCAD Lite preferred) and/or 3D models (SolidWorks)
  • Collaborate with fabrication, electrical design, and technical sales from concept to completion
  • Ensure designs are practical for fabrication, including consideration of materials and welding techniques
  • Understand and integrate mechanical components (e.g., chain drive systems, motors)
  • Apply safety standards and engineering best practices throughout the design process
  • Contribute to design reviews and provide accurate lead time estimates

Essential Experience & Skills

  • Proven track record in designing industrial equipment or processing lines
  • Strong materials knowledge – especially stainless and mild steel (1.5mm thickness and above)
  • Hands-on understanding of fabrication and welding processes
  • Knowledge of mechanical systems (motors, sprockets, chain drives)
  • Familiarity with pneumatic systems (advantageous but not required)
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Lite 2D (SolidWorks 3D experience also welcome)
  • Clean UK Driving Licence

About You

  • Technically confident and capable of leading with clear communication
  • Comfortable working independently while collaborating effectively at key project stages
  • Able to perform under pressure, managing tight deadlines and competing priorities
  • Naturally curious and always keen to learn and improve
  • Approachable and clear in design discussions, especially when advising on lead times and design considerations
