Job Title: Bookkeeper

Salary: up to £32,000 p/a ( dependant on experience)

Location: Nottingham, NG2 (on-site role)

Type: Full time, Permanent, Office Based, Standard Office Hours – 8.30am-5pm

Job Summary

We’re partnering with a specialist UK food‑service supplier who are looking for an experienced Bookkeeper to join their friendly and expanding team. This is a great opportunity to play a key role as the company continues to grow its presence across the UK.

This role is ideal for someone who is confident managing day-to-day accounts and enjoys taking ownership of bookkeeping tasks in a busy, hands-on environment. As this is a brand-new position within a small but growing business, it will initially be a stand-alone role, liaising closely with external accountants, so candidates should be comfortable working independently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own accounts receivable: post sales invoices, issue monthly statements, chase overdue balances, maintain debtor records, and escalate per credit policy; help set and review credit limits.
  • Manage accounts payable: process supplier invoices, match to POs/delivery notes (where applicable), reconcile supplier statements, and prepare weekly payment runs.
  • Process staff expenses and company purchases, ensuring valid VAT documentation.
  • Process and log supplier invoices, and company purchases.
  • Maintain organised digital and physical filing systems for financial records.
  • Support management with financial reporting (aged debtors/creditors, cash flow updates, invoice status etc.)
  • Liaise with suppliers, customers, and accountants to resolve any finance-related queries.
  • General office administration where required.

About you

  • Experience in a bookkeeping or finance assistant role
  • Strong understanding of accounts payable/receivable and credit control
  • You will have hands-on experience with accounting software, ideally QuickBooks
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Outlook
  • Excellent attention to detail and numerical accuracy
  • Strong organisational and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and prioritise tasks in a small team environment

Nice to have (not essential)

  • Experience in the wholesale, distribution, or food service sector
  • QuickBooks Online experience
