About the Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a proactive and highly organised Assistant Quality Manager to support the delivery of quality and food safety standards within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Working closely with the Quality Manager, you will contribute to the effective management of quality systems, ensuring compliance with food safety regulations, customer expectations, and industry standards. This role is key in maintaining product integrity, supporting audits, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement across the site.

This is a varied position suited to someone who thrives under pressure, enjoys problem-solving, and can balance multiple priorities while maintaining high attention to detail.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing customer documentation, including supplier questionnaires and packaging specifications
  • Investigating and responding to customer complaints, ensuring timely resolution
  • Monitoring quality performance through daily reporting and trend analysis
  • Handling raw material rejections and associated credit processes
  • Supporting compliance with recognised food safety standards (e.g. BRCGS)
  • Conducting internal audits as part of the Integrated Management System (IMS)
  • Carrying out traceability exercises to verify system effectiveness
  • Coordinating pest control activities across the site
  • Overseeing equipment calibration processes
  • Supporting day-to-day quality control operations, including team cover when required
  • Delivering hygiene and food safety inductions to employees and contractors

About You

You will be a detail-focused professional with strong organisational skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

Key attributes include:

  • Strong administrative and organisational capability
  • Confident user of IT systems (e.g. Microsoft Office)
  • Effective communicator, both written and verbal
  • Ability to manage tasks through to completion
  • Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving ability
  • Capable of prioritising workload in a dynamic environment
  • Comfortable liaising with external stakeholders (e.g. suppliers, contractors)
  • Understanding or interpretation of food safety standards

Experience & Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a similar quality-focused role is advantageous
  • Background in FMCG, packaging, or manufacturing environments is desirable
