The Role

We are working on behalf of client to recruit for a Project Engineer within the Rail / Rolling Stock industry to lead and coordinate engineering design, re-engineering, and related technical projects.

  • Lead and manage a small design engineering team, overseeing workload, quality, and delivery.
  • Develop innovative engineering concepts and ensure accurate 2D/3D CAD outputs (SolidWorks or similar).
  • Support on-site installation teams and resolve technical design issues.
  • Deliver modification, refurbishment, and re-engineering projects across passenger and freight rolling stock.
  • Ensure all projects meet time, cost, and quality targets through effective planning and regular reviews.
  • Work closely with clients and stakeholders, leading project reviews and maintaining clear communication.
  • Capture and share project information, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and best practices.
  • Conduct vehicle surveys to support concept and detailed design development.
  • Support First-in-Class installations and smooth transition to fleet production.
  • Prepare engineering change documentation and support relevant technical assessments (EMC, structural, fire).

The Candidate

We are looking for a projects engineer with a strong background in rail rolling stock, capable of working effectively in a commercial environment and engaging confidently with customers and contractors.

  • Eligibility to work in the UK, no sponsorship will be available
  • Degree in an engineering discipline
  • Strong engineering background in passenger rolling stock
  • Comfortable managing multiple tasks in a dynamic project environment.
  • Membership of a professional body (e.g., IET, IMechE)
  • Chartered status desirable
  • Team leadership and people management
  • Project management expertise
  • High attention to detail
  • Innovative approach to problem-solving
  • Ability to work independently and use initiative
  • Strong organisational and prioritisation skills
  • Effective communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Computer literate with strong technical aptitude
  • Commercial awareness
