Job Description – Operations Manager

Hours/Days:

40 hours per week over 5 days.

You may be required to work additional hours as per the requirements of the company, including nights and occasional weekends.

Lodging away will be required from time to time depending on works location.

Location:

The location for this role will be either based in Chesterfield office although nationwide works will be required. You are to report to your line manager situated in the specified office. You will also be required to work nights, some weekends and to work away from home as per the business needs of the company.

Profile:

The company specialises in Structural Inspection, Investigation, Testing, NDT, Monitoring, Maintenance and Repair to all types of structural assets. They offer Nationwide coverage in the Highways, Rail, Waterways and Utility sectors.

 

Main Objectives:

In this permanent senior role, you will mainly be required to manage delivery of projects from initial enquiry stage, through quoting, awarding and delivery. This includes liaising with clients, suppliers and 3rd parties on all business and project matters. Operations Manager must delegate roles within a project and ensure all matters of project delivery are met including all health and safety and compliance. You must be competent in overseeing and supervising work packages of structural inspections, investigations and testing works including desk top studies, reporting and report sign off. An Operations Manager will also be responsible for staff mentoring and training staff members to name but some of the senior level duties. An Operations Manager will actively promote innovation within the business as well as the business services and disciplines.

As part of the above duties, the Operations Manager will be required to walk/climb structural embankments, sometimes steep, climb over boundary/protective fences etc in order to access all areas of a structure. Scaffold towers and generators etc (25kg Max weight) are also required to be carried from vehicles to desired locations suitable to undertake works. The large proportion of works are undertaken on carriage and motorways within temporary lane closures via a Mobile Elevated Working Platform (MEWP). Working within close proximity to fast moving traffic and up to a height of approx. 32m vertically but may be higher. Confined space Inspections (Low & medium risk) of culverts and drainage wells are also regularly undertaken by all staff.

Due to the above tasks associated with the role, a healthy level of physical and mental fitness is required from all levels of staff.

In addition to these responsibilities, your role encompasses actively pursuing and nurturing relationships with potential clients to expand the company’s client base in the structural inspection and testing sector. Ensuring continued client satisfaction and exploring avenues for increased collaboration with existing clients to fortify long-term partnerships are also part of your duties. Moreover, providing guidance, mentorship, and training to junior team members within the inspection and testing sector is essential for their professional growth and skill enhancement.

 

Key Accountabilities (please note this is not an exhaustive list of duties but represents the main requirements of the role):

  • Manage site contracts to ensure works are carried out to programme with no re-visits or missed information.
  • Keep KPI data up to date.
  • Set up contracts.
  • Ensure Health & Safety is at the forefront of all planning.
  • Ensure quality is paramount to maintain UKAS Accreditation.
  • Ensure all staff are fully trained and have current qualifications/cards for undertaking site works.
  • Attend client meetings and internet-based meetings.
  • Write and submit Tenders.
  • Work as part of a team to develop junior staff.
  • Compile factual Reports/certificates.
  • Any other duties.
