Lead Estimator – Rail

2fawcett Infrastructure & Construction are pleased to be partnering with a leading Principal Contractor who are looking to appoint a Lead Estimator for their Rail division.  You will be tasked with building/developing the Estimating function with a view to progressing into a ‘Head of’ role.

Reporting into the Pre-Construction Director, you will work autonomously with support from a Senior Estimator and a well-established work-winning and pre-construction team. You will need to demonstrate experience of successful estimating on medium-large scale multi-disciplinary rail projects.  In this role you will be You will be responsible for building up accurate cost estimates and producing supporting technical information to enable the company to submit competitive tenders

What you’ll be doing day to day

  • Producing analytical rate build ups using commercial estimating software (Conquest/Candy)
  • Obtaining sufficient quotations to enable valued commercial judgement
  • Prepare an accurate cost estimate for the preliminary resources required to carry out the works in accordance with agreed programme & engineering requirements
  • Check labour & plant resources accumulated in the cost estimate with those derived from the tender programme
  • Input into the preparation of Quality and Technical Submissions
  • Identify potential risks and opportunities associated with the tender documents
  • Risk review of the tender to inform bid decisions in conjunction with Pre-Construction team
  • Proposing innovative ideas
  • Attending and presenting cost information at tender settlement meetings
  • Prepare the commercial tender for submission to the Client
  • Transferring information and liaising with site teams following successful tender bids
  • Promoting the company’s image and values, within the industry

The experience we’re looking for

  • Rail experience (essential)
  • 5 years + of Estimating experience
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to hit the ground running
  • Experience in P6/Estimating software
  • Commercial and contractual awareness
  • An industry applicable qualification, preferably to Degree Level (desirable)
