We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Instrument Engineer/Technician to join our team dedicated to the design, manufacture, repair, and maintenance of high-quality surgical instruments. The ideal candidate will have experience working with precision engineering tools and processes, and a strong commitment to quality assurance and compliance with industry standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Inspect, repair, and maintain surgical instruments to ensure they meet quality and performance standards.
  • Interpret technical drawings and specifications to perform accurate instrument modification and production.
  • Use precision tools and equipment including lathes, grinders, polishing machines, and microscopes.
  • Work collaboratively with quality control, production, and design teams to improve processes and resolve issues.
  • Perform root cause analysis on defective instruments and implement corrective actions.
  • Maintain accurate documentation for work performed in line with regulatory and internal quality standards.
  • Support new product development and prototype assembly as needed.
  • Adhere to health and safety regulations within a cleanroom or workshop environment.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as an Instrument Technician, Engineer, or similar role within a surgical or precision engineering environment.
  • Proficient in using hand tools and precision measuring instruments.
  • Knowledge of ISO 13485 and regulatory compliance within medical device manufacturing is preferred.
  • Strong manual dexterity and attention to detail.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Good communication and problem-solving skills.
  • NVQ Level 3, HNC, or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Instrumentation, or a related field is desirable.

Desirable Attributes:

  • Experience working with stainless steel or other medical-grade materials.
  • Understanding of lean manufacturing principles.
  • Prior involvement in continuous improvement initiatives.
