Role: Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) Engineer
Location: Scunthorpe
Salary: £28,000 – £32,000 per annum DOE
Type: Permanent and full time

37.5 hours per week with flexible working hours 

Overview of the FAT Engineer

2fawcett are recruiting for a Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) Engineer based in Scunthorpe. This role Is Working as part of a small multi-disciplined team controlling various projects at any one-time ensuring alignment to project schedule is achieved for each contract. To anticipate and respond to client needs to ensure we offer an exceptional service. The role requires a high degree of flexibility and initiative in order to make sure that customers, both internal and external, receive the highest level of customer experience and that the many and varied demands of the post are prioritised and dealt with efficiently. Above all, the FAT Engineer is expected to represent the company in a professional manner and in the best possible light –in person, via email and on the phone.

Responsibilities of the Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) Engineer

  • Completing technical assessments of projects
  • Building security systems to a pre-defined specification in accordance with customers’ requirements
  • Undertaking Factory Acceptance Tests with customers
  • Commissioning equipment
  • Working with the Technology Centre to test, validate and deliver third party software integrations
  • Attesting in the completion of project documentation including technical manuals, system diagrams and project handovers to ensure that field service engineers have all information required to commission the system
  • Knowledge sharing with other engineers/engineering teams of specific technical information and skills learnt during the delivery of bespoke software solutions
  • Trouble-shooting installation and software issues during system builds
  • Sharing ownership in the responsibility for moving a project from the closed sales status, via a hand-off process with the projects team, through to the point where equipment is dispatched to site
  • Acting as an ambassador and taking ownership of the customer experience during project build and testing
  • Working with different departments such as sales and stores to ensure a smooth and timely project delivery
  • Liaising with project engineers to ensure system readiness at Pre-FAT and FAT stage.
  • Keeping accurate records such as FAT documents, test inspection sheets, drawings etc.
  • Following clearly defined testing procedures using various pieces of test equipment.
  • Providing feedback to enable process improvements
  • Providing input into product development planning and the Technology Roadmap
  • Working flexible hours to meet project requirements, as directed by the line manager
  • Always ensuring Health & Safety of self and staff through training and regular communication of relevant procedures
  • Assisting in Project Based activities such as continuous improvement, Lean, 5S etc.
  • Developing and maintaining working relationships across the company to allow effective team working
  • Carrying out any task or assignment linked to this position as directed by the FAT Team Leader or senior members of the team

Requirements of the Test Engineer

  • Qualification in IT/Computing/IP networking desirable
  • Windows based operating systems, including Windows 10 and Windows Server 2016 – 2022
  • Knowledge of IP video systems and CCTV installation desirable but not essential
  • Microsoft qualifications (MCSA, MCSE, MCITP)
  • Cisco qualifications (CCNA, CCNP, CCENT)
  • Database knowledge (IBM DB2, SQL)
  • IP Networking (IP addressing, sub netting, routing, TCP,UDP, multicast)
  • High level of PC literacy
  • Knowledge and experience of bespoke software packages
  • Qualifications and experience in electrical engineering/electronics
  • Knowledge and experience of electrical safety
  • Ability to understand and interpret system and wiring diagrams
